Facebook In HOT Water

Recently, Facebook has been executing some damage control in light of recent events involving the platform. Last week news broke of a company called Cambridge Analytica which had access to over 50 million Facebook users data which was collected in a deceiving manner. The information was then alleged to have been used during the 2016 election by identifying the preferences of these users and using that to build a more tailored campaign.

Instagram’s ‘New Posts’ Button, Hashtags & Account Tagging in BIO’s

Instagram’s latest update now gives more control to users for their timeline feed. Although the company has confirmed that it will not revert back to the chronological feed (as discussed here last week), users will now be able to refresh their feed to show more recent posts on their command. This update is likely Instagram’s attempt at pleasing the users who have criticized the app for its new algorithm.

 

Also included in the latest update, was the addition of clickable hashtags and the ability to tag accounts in your bio. We believe that brands will be able to benefit heavily from this by tagging other company accounts and adding specific hashtags that encourages followers to submit their own UGC (user-generated-content). Baskin Robbins Canada (@BaskinRobbinsCanada) has already done a great example of this!

Insights on UGC Content

Speaking of UGC, is your brand embracing it? If not, it should be! According to the data presented by Olapic, UGC can play a large role towards reaching your goals. Some interesting statistics we found from this article was that more consumers will trust UGC content over professional images by brands. They are also more likely interact with them on Instagram compared to any other social media platform.
